The Green Man has worked his magic again – conjuring up three spellbinding acts that are sure to make this year’s festival the most mystical and memorable yet.
On Friday night headliners Animal Collective will unravel the cosmic chaos of their latest stellar long-player Merriweather Post Pavillion beneath the campfire glow of the starry Welsh sky.
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE
Already acclaimed as one of the albums of 2009, its euphoric brilliance is guaranteed to get the Green Man party started with a technicolour bang. Trust us - you’ll be dancing like a loon.
And before that US songwriting legend Roky Erickson, founder of psychedelic blues trailblazers The 13th Floor Elevators, summons the spirit ’66 with a rare live performance beneath the stunning backdrop of the Black Mountains. The Texan singer and guitarist is one of rock and roll’s unsung heroes, influencing generations of musicians as varied as Janis Joplin, Patti Smith, REM, Sonic Youth and The White Stripes.
Throw in an after hours funk-rock-rap-house-disco workout from DJhistory – aka Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton, Lowlife organisers and authors of Last Night A DJ Saved My Life – and headlined by the Idjut Boys as well as dub monster Michael Cook and you’ve got one heady brew of sonic escapism to tempt and tantalize your ear drums.
